BEGINNING SOMATICS

Friday 1:00-2:00pm
Cost:  $10 Nonmember, $8 Member, $0 Fitness Plus/Platinum

In this class we will learn and explore the essential somatic movements based on those developed by Thomas Hanna. Registration is open to those who have had no previous experience, and those who have previously attended an intro course or special series.

Hanna Somatics teaches us how to use our brain to ease our pain by reducing muscle stiffness, giving our nervous system better information about how to use our muscles the way they were designed for efficient, comfortable activity. Participants will learn about the natural reflex arcs patterns in the human body, and how to address muscle tightness in the front, back, and sides - as well as shoulders, hips, and limbs. The movements feel good - they are simple, calming, and effective. They're designed to increase comfort, ease, and freedom in all the ways we move throughout the day, and to give us more possibilities for moving well.

Participants should be able to get up and down from the floor; using a chair for help doing that is fine. Almost all the movements are done on the floor, so once we are down we stay down until class is over.
Instructor: Cheryl Ramette, certified Hanna Somatics-based Instructor
